Children had the opportunity to make their own volcanos

Children made their own volcanoes and were amazed at the results.

Immanuel’s Early Childhood teachers recently transformed their space into a Hawaiian Paradise so that preschoolers could delight in a “trip” to America’s 50th state. After the children packed their suitcases and took a flight on a pretend airplane, they experienced a beach day, a volcano day, a Luau day, and a whale watching day. The culminating activity was hula dancing with a real live hula dancer who taught them about the culture of the islands as they danced along to beautiful Hawaiian music.

The children then flew back on the pretend airplane, watching a movie and eating in-flight snacks as they traveled thousands of miles home again to see their families. The children learned so much as they used their imaginations to feel, hear, smell, touch and taste Hawaii. This trip is an annual preschool event, and program graduates treasure their “Hawaiian” memories. “We are so happy to teach the children about the beauty of God’s creation in this world,” said Marlene Tres, the program’s director. “Hawaii was definitely a special unit and a fun aspect of our curriculum. We also provide daily activities that are geared for children to learn through their imaginations with hands-on science, engineering, art, math, and phonemic awareness activities. We strive to make learning fun and meaningful.”

Those activities will be showcased next month in an interactive environment. Immanuel Lutheran will hold a “Maker Night” Preschool – Eighth Grade Open House for the entire community on Tuesday, April 5, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Children will be able to “make” a variety of things, and activities will be STEAM-focused. Immanuel Lutheran School is located at 200 North Plum Grove Road in downtown Palatine, just two blocks east of the Palatine Metra Train Station.
